When you need to make sure your equipment gets to and from your job sites, you'll want to do a bit of research before choosing your towing service. Here are a few things you should look for before you hire a tow truck company.
Licensing And Insurance
Your tow truck company should be licensed by your state's department of transportation, and all drivers should pass background checks. Knowing that both the company and the drivers are qualified to handle your equipment will provide added peace of mind. Additionally, the company should carry an adequate amount of liability insurance to protect your construction equipment in the event of an accident. Ask to see the licensing and proof of insurance before you sign a contract with a flatbed towing service.
Ask About Equipment Loading And Unloading
While flatbed towing companies will provide transport for your equipment, some may not offer loading and unloading of your construction equipment as part of the service. You may prefer to have your staff unload the equipment, but you'll want to know that the trucks being used to transport your loaders, backhoes and trucks offer built-in ramps and lifts to facilitate easy movement on and off the flatbed. If possible, ask to inspect the trucks being used on your job sites so you can determine if they are properly equipped for safe loading and unloading.
Roadside Assistance
Your flatbed towing company can do more than just transport your vehicles. Ask about any discounts you may be able to receive for roadside assistance and towing should your company trucks break down on the road. You may be able to include incidental roadside assistance in your contract as a perk of hiring the company to move your heavy equipment. The towing company can arrange for jump starts and flat tire changes for company vehicles or even your personal vehicle at a discount as part of your partnership.
Additional Flatbed Towing Services
Your construction company may occasionally need to have building materials transported on a flatbed truck. Work with your local towing company to see if it can provide this extra service for your company. You may need to have modular buildings transported to a job site for use as a temporary construction office, or you may need to have large pipes or concrete pieces moved for a large construction project. Your towing company may be able to perform these services as part of your towing contract.
